4 Weed Holidays to Celebrate In 2024

Cannabis culture is actively cultivating in many communities with new resources, services, and reasons to celebrate. Weed holidays such as 4/20 and Legalization Day are some of the best times to get together with friends and smoke legally. Check out the four biggest marijuana holidays in the U.S.

1. 4/20 — Saturday, April 20, 2024

April 20 marks the most famous weed holiday. The idea was developed nearly 50 years ago by a group of high schoolers who called themselves “the Waldos.” These friends used “420” as a codeword for their after-school smoking sessions, and the term spread like wildfire. Today, many people use 4:20 pm, 4:20 am, and even video game scores featuring “420” as an excuse to light up in honor of these trailblazers.

4/20 — the twentieth day of the fourth month — celebrates all things cannabis. Friends often carve out time to smoke together safely, and most dispensaries amp up their sales and promotions.

2. Jack Herer’s Birthday — Thursday, June 18, 2024

Jack Herer was a cannabis rights activist who founded Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP) and wrote the 1985 book The Emperor Wears No Clothes. Throughout his life, Herer worked to decriminalize cannabis cultivation and promote hemp’s uses for medicine, paper, food, fuel, and more. He eventually earned the title “The Emperor of Hemp.”

Jack Herer’s birthday is a great day to light up, acknowledge how far weed legalization has come, and share education about safe uses. Visit your dispensary to learn how to get involved in local cannabis culture

3. Legalization Day — Wednesday, November 6, 2024

U.S. Election Day is held on the first or second Tuesday of every November and has repeatedly served as a landmark day for weed legalization. Many people honor Legalization Day by acknowledging these achievements and encouraging others to vote if cannabis is on the ballot.

Though individual states may celebrate their own landmarks and THC holidays, Weed Legalization Day is generally held on November 6 every year. This date commemorates Colorado’s and Washington’s legalization of recreational cannabis on November 6, 2012.

4. Green Wednesday — Wednesday, November 27, 2024

The day before Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for many bars across the US. Likewise, “Thanksgiving Eve” is also one of the most active days for recreational dispensaries, giving it the name Green Wednesday. Customers often purchase edibles, THC vapes, and other subtle consumption methods to prep for family gatherings.

Many dispensaries embrace the rush with bigger sales and promotions, so Green Wednesday may be a good time to stock up on weed. However, the holiday will likely also lead to larger lines, so you may prefer to do your holiday shopping in advance.
